Our History

Who are we and where we came from
Lake Shore Drive Synagogue Interior Windows

Lakeshore Drive Synagogue (Shomrei Israel) is located on a quiet street off of Lake Michigan in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago. Family members and a few of their friends bought a four- story apartment building in 1980, on Elm Street. They proceeded to convert it to a sanctuary on the first floor, a community space for Kiddush meals, events and programs on the second floor and a library and learning center on the fourth floor, which has also been utilized as a Tot Shabbat from time to time.

We welcome the opportunity to share your family events and celebrations and we are here to help you manage difficult situations that may arise.
